Professional hockey is alive and well in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Fans will have a grand timeat Mohegan Sun Arena on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 7:05 p.m. when the hometown Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins take on the Hartford Wolf Pack in an American Hockey League (AHL) contest. Affiliated with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has been the main tenant of Mohegan Sun Arena since November, 1999, which is when the venue opened and the team made its AHL debut. Along with the Penguins, there are 29 other AHL teams. Twenty-seven of them are based in the United States while the other three reside in Canada. At the end of the season, two teams face off for the Calder Cup, the AHL's version of the NHL's Stanley Cup.
Throughout the Penguins season, there are a number of games that have promotions attached to them. Unfortunately, the game against Hartford is not one of them. However, there are plenty of opportunities to attend one of these fun give-away nights. On Saturday, January 30 against Lehigh Valley, it's the Hall of Fame Night and Throwback Jersey Auction. A week later on February 6 when Bridgeport is in town, you'll receive a McCarthy Tire All-Star Poster. And nine days later on Sunday, February 14 with Portland as the opponent, kids under 14 are free and hot dogs are just $2.
